Clan motto
These people hailed from Ankole and the ones who
remained in their birth place have a pied wagtail
(kanyamumnyu – Runyankole, Nnamunye –
Luganda) as their totem. These people on arrival in
Buganda, they joined two clans; nnyonyi in Kyaggwe
and Ngabi Nsamba.
They are known as Abashambo in Ankole and they have
several totems. The pied wagtail (kanyamunyu) is their
official bird but their two totems are a woman without
breasts (epa) and anything that is burnt in a house
or a garden (ekihirira). If a house caught fire, they
do not eat any food that could have been there or
use items saved after a fire. If a plantation caught
fire, similarly, they do not eat all the food that
is a little burnt.
